SECTION 1031 ALLOWS TAX DEFERRAL.
Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code enables investors in qualifying real property and business equipment that is 'used in a trade or business, or held for investment,' to defer the capital gains tax relating to the sale of their property when they acquire qualifying 'like-kind' property and observe other IRS guidelines.

Selling investment real property and personal property (such as aircraft and business equipment) for a gain results in a capital gains tax liability.
